David Nolan is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences. His main research topics are hurricanes, tornadoes, and tropical meteorology. Currently, he is supervising research projects on the impacts of hurricane winds in urban environments, gravity waves radiating out of hurricanes, and using satellite data to diagnose hurricane intensity and intensity change.
